Our MissionThe short version of what we aim to do

Create fitness camp communities that inspire and empower individuals of all fitness levels to be fit and healthy for life.

Our StoryThe slightly longer version of what we aim to do

Our mission really nails it — we build fitness communities. We think life is best lived in community; thus we see a better way to do fitness than sweating in your living room alone doing Tai-Bo or aimlessly wandering around a gym. We also don't think "boot camp" has to involve getting berated by a 'real' marine or running around a park for 60 minutes. Nor do we believe fitness is held exclusively by the athletes; in fact, it may just be the only thing in life that success is guaranteed simply by trying harder than you did yesterday.

We seek to better define what it means to be ‘fit' — not only in creating unique workouts but in tying our definition to include a more sustainable approach. We offer campers the opportunity to, not only get fit, but to live fit — a viable model that goes beyond the 30-day quick fix. And it also means we give back to those without the means to afford quality fitness programs. Our story is directly tied to the communities we serve and the kids' lives we hope to improve just because people decided they wanted to get in shape themselves.

Our campers become fiercely loyal and the really cool part is that they then become part of the story —a story that has gained serious momentum in Atlanta, and one that we're excited to spread even further.

Our TeamA few of the people behind the curtain.

  • Josh
    Josh Guerrieri — President — josh@fitwit.com
    • The good (AKA — why you might trust Josh as FitWit's leader):
      • Summa Cum Luade from Wittenberg University (Ohio)
      • NCAC record-holder in the Decathlon & NCAA National Qualifier
      • Teach For America Corps member (2001) — taught and coached (basketball, track) for 6 years and earned STAR Teacher of the Year at Washington High School.
      • ACE certified personal trainer since 2004.
    • The bad:
      • I can barely swim one length of a pool without resorting to some sort of doggie paddle.
      • I despise onions and the sound of fingers on a balloon.
    • The mildly interesting:
      • I grew up near Cleveland, Ohio as one of 8 kids (Hi Mom!), and I now have 4 of my own.
      • We live in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur, Georgia where my wife and I continue to work on perfecting the 2-man zone defense against a rising team of munchkins.
  • Erin
    Erin Guerrieri — First-lady — erin@fitwit.com
    • The Good (AKA- Why all crazy ideas are run by her first):
      • Mother of 4 under 4. Yeah — that's the first bullet point!
      • Amazing capacity for filtering crazy ideas.
      • Honors Degree in English (collegiate track captain too!)
      • Taught middle school special education before we had kids
    • The bad:
      • I hate it when there is any foil/wrapper left on the lids of little applesauce/ pudding/yogurt cups.
      • Despite appearances, I do not LOVE being pregnant.
      • I rarely stay awake for the length of one movie.
    • The mildly interesting:
      • I grew up near Cleveland, Ohio about 2 miles from Josh and we were high school sweethearts. (I know: awwwww.)
      • I'm a total nerd and I love organization and anything to do with it. Ah — the sweet smell of new notebooks and pencils!
      • I'm also passionate about babies and will cry about anything remotely related to babies and kids.
  • Ben
    Ben — Vice-President — ben@fitwit.com
    • The Good (AKA — Why Ben thought starting a non-profit was a better idea than more lucrative, stable employment.):
      • I love fitness because anyone can be successful at it. It's the only thing in life where you can succeed through effort alone. You don't have to be good at it, you just have to try.
      • I've trained over 1,000 people ranging in ages from 5 to 62. From the morbidly obese to the highly conditioned athlete, everyone can improve their fitness. I love watching people achieve something they previously didn't think that they could do.
      • Prior to FitWit, I served seven years as an Air Force officer and earned a master's degree in Operations Research at the Air Force Institute of Technology (math nerd!). The Air Force core values are fundamental to my life and FitWit—integrity first; service before self; excellence in all we do.
    • The bad:
      • Do not tell me that you can't do something. I REALLY hate that. You can do anything . . . just maybe not yet.
      • I read very slowly.
      • Hot dogs. I love hot dogs. No, you don't understand. I LOVE hot dogs.
    • The mildly interesting:
      • I'm married to Josh's little sister. Yes, as a matter of fact, it is a little stressful being married to my boss's sister—but she's worth every bit of it.
      • You can see the impact of our Wittenberg track and field team in each FitWit workout. From the warm-up to the clap-up at the end, we Tiger-Up a lot at FitWit.
      • Summer camp is my first love. Coming soon: Camp FitWit!.

Our TrainersThe people you'll love to hate.

FitWit trainers are professionally certified personal trainers, with strong fitness/ athletic backgrounds and a heart for community. Just like you, we shy away from those trainers more concerned with how they look in the mirror than with your workout.

Our trainers are coaches — actively teaching, inspiring and guiding you to better form and better effort. Each location (Grant Park, Midtown and Decatur) has its own cadre of trainers.

Our HistoryThe long version of how this adventure began.

FitWit is an Atlana-based company, created by Josh and Erin Guerrieri in 2005. Teaching in inner-city Atlanta Public Schools proved to Josh and Erin that quality fitness and tutoring programs were needed for the students they served. Combining personal fitness training (FIT) and academic tutoring (WIT) proved to be an effective tool for improving the lives of a traditionally underserved student population.

While FitWit launched new programs for students, it also began offering the same type of group fitness classes for adults. At that time, they saw a niche between

what typical boot camps were offering and a more personal training experience closer to Crossfit. Combining the best elements of both, FitWit created a new fitness genre: group fitness training with an emphasis on individual performance improvement and a commitment to giving back to the community.

The original camp in the Grant Park neighborhood of Atlanta has seen exponential growth since its inception. FitWit has made it's expansion slowly in order to avoid watering-down the successful formula of recruiting quality trainers and planting roots in a community. The FitWit program has been successfully replicated in Decatur and in Midtown Atlanta, with more growth planned in the near future.

While FitWit grew, so did the commitment to help under-served children. So, in 2008 The FitWit Foundation was created as a non-profit organization empowering young people to lead healthy and successful lives. FitWit LLC donates revenues from every adult camp to The FitWit Foundation, which then provides free fitness opportunities for at-risk Atlanta youth, fulfilling the original vision of FitWit — building community through fitness.
