Kirkwood Member of the Month (December) – Melissa

Congrats to our December Member of the Month – Melissa!

Melissa has been “all in” since joining FitWit in 2016 – attending socials, active in the FB group, encouraging other members, signing up for EVERY monthly challenge and consistently showing up early/staying after class to work on her goals. It’s tough to think of anything that Melissa doesn’t do in the gym. And she does it all with a sweet demeanor (some occasional under-the-breath profanity) and a real concern for fellow FitWit members. Well deserved, Melissa!

Tell us about any sports & fitness background.

I ran cross country and track and swam in high school. But I was not particularly good at any of those. Always gave my best and got the 110% award.

Ran a couple of marathons and half marathons- in an alternative universe life before I had 3 kids

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting FitWit?

I have definitely noticed that I have gotten stronger and moved up in kettlebell weights!

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like FitWit that were totally unexpected?

I now love waking up early to work out in the morning when I have childcare. But the most unexpected thing is the community of FitWit. Everyone is so nice and encouraging!

Why do you FitWit?

Because I am learning to love myself enough to take an hour out of my day to focus on ME and get stronger physically and mentally.

Favorite workouts?

I actually really like the long AMRAPS (30 minute ones)- it definitely tests my endurance.

Least favorite workouts?

Wall balls, weighted lunges, 1k and 2k Row, and anything that involves that damn air bike!!

Three words to describe you: authentic, loyal, determined

Any favorite FitWit moments? I always love team weeks- it’s so fun to see the gym come together and encourage one another

Fitness Goals? Faster mile, longer plank hold, a dip up and down without touching my feet to the ground, and one damn pull up.

Something cool we don’t know about you?

I am half Brazilian and half Guatemalan.

I skydived (once) in college.

I spent a year in Bolivia in college.

I got attacked by a peacock when I was 6 years old and had to get stitches- still have a scar.
