Let’s give a round of applause for May’s Member of the Month – Will Anderson! Will walks into class with a pep in his step and a cheerful, “Hey, Coach!” every time without fail. He shows up early, assembles his equipment, and greets other members as they show up. He has been consistent and coachable since joining the FitWit Fam. We are proud of the progress he’s made and his persistence to keep getting better. Between his commitment by showing up to class and his community spirit, Will embodies what FitWit is all about! Way to go, Will!

Occupation: I am a Technical Account Manager for Yardi Systems. We design & service accounting software for companies that manage rental properties. I assist clients in setting up this software and help them fix it if it ever breaks.
When did you first start FitWit-ing? I joined the club in early September of 2020.
Tell us about your sports & fitness background:
I played competitive soccer from the age of 5 through high school. I signed on to be a kicker for my high school’s football team but bailed less than 2 hours in after the head coach decided that they were going to go for 2 point conversions after touchdowns rather than kicking extra points. In college, I played intramural flag football & ultimate frisbee. I love snowboarding when I have the opportunity. I’ve completed a Peachtree Road Race as well as a Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon. I play golf several times a year and also enjoy hiking & kayaking with my wife & friends.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting FitWit?
More energy, greater strength, & sharper mental focus. It is a lot easier to wake up in the morning even if I might be a little bit sore from the previous day’s workout. I find that I can accomplish a lot more in a day than I did before I committed to attending FitWit classes. Everything from being more productive with my occupation to taking care of things around the house; I don’t know another way to say it- I just feel really good & crave a lifestyle that’s more active than I had previously been living – its fantastic!
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like FitWit that were totally unexpected?
My personal confidence has increased far more than I ever expected it to. Prior to joining FitWit, I dealt with a series of very unfortunate events relating to my professional life. It wore on my mind and I had a very tough time moving on. Those negative feelings permeated to other areas of my life and began to have a negative impact on my relationships with people very close to me. At the end of it all, I realized that I had to start taking care of myself before I could take care of others and find success in other areas. With the encouragement of my wife, Rebecca, I decided to join. I never expected to be able to put as much of that negative stuff behind me as I have since joining FitWit. I approached joining the gym as a way to increase my physical well-being. However, I have to say that my psychological well-being has benefited the most and I never expected that to happen.
Why do you FitWit?
Quite simply – it just makes me feel really really good. Sometimes it sucks, but I suppose it is the best kind of suck because you’re doing something that’s good for your body and mind.
Strength and Power EMOMs with tempo reps mixed in.
Least favorite workouts?
Is this a risk-free question?! If I answer this honestly, how can anyone guarantee that the particular workout(s) I’m thinking of won’t show up on the calendar more regularly as punishment? The works outs that I enjoy the least may or may not involve words that rhyme with cunning or durpees.
Three words to describe you:
Spontaneous, Easygoing, Hospitable
Any favorite FitWit moments?
During the Fall/Winter of 2020, a group of kids would meet in the evenings across the street in an attempt to learn how to play rock music. After hearing a patchwork cover of R.E.M’s “Losing My Religion” about 2,586 times during warmup (I honestly lost count after that), Coach Renell dialed up the original recording of the song over on the sound system so that the other fine and upstanding FitWit attendees of the evening class didn’t have to suffer any longer. I’m grateful for his efforts, as I’m certain that his keen thinking potentially saved that classic track from being ruined for me. No word on how many other members actually lost their religion that evening.
-Before I was a member, I recall meeting several FitWit trainers & staff at the 2019 Halloween party. I was honored to attend as Mrs. Anderson’s plus one. These trainers were dressed as characters from the HBO series, “The Righteous Gemstones”. I looked pretty ridiculous myself, wearing a giant Snoopy onesie. But seeing a group of folks that could cut loose and enjoy themselves even after sweating it out with many of you a few hours earlier may have foreshadowed my membership. It affirmed that you can still work hard and play hard and have fun getting into shape.
Find muscle mass, lose body fat, continue to gain strength & increase endurance.
Words to live by?
“There’s gonna be a lot of days where you lay your guts on the line and you come up empty-handed. Ain’t a damn thing you can do about it but go back and lay ‘em on the line again…and again…and again […] If you keep fightin’ […] you’ll build a foundation that you can live a long, long time on.” -Coach Pat Dye
Something cool we don’t know about you?
When not FitWiting, I love gardening & yard work, as well as cooking outdoors on my grill & smoker. My wife & I love to entertain & enjoy preparing our home to welcome guests for evenings on the deck or around the firepit. We have a sweet rescue mutt named Jackie that we love more than one ought to love a dog.
You’re also likely to catch me at nearly every Atlanta United FC home match at Mercedes Benz Stadium. I also enjoy supporting my Alma Mater’s Auburn Tigers on the gridiron & the hardwood every Fall & Spring.
Anything else you’d care to share?
I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge my wife, Rebecca. She encouraged me to join because she always talked about how much joy being a part of the FitWit community brought to her life. I resisted because I never thought that I would respond well to group exercise and I was admittedly self-conscious and embarrassed of how I would be received when I showed up visibly out of shape and unmotivated. How wrong I was! I’m so grateful to have a partner who values my personal well-being and health.
I want to express my most sincere & genuine gratitude to all of the FitWit trainers & staff. The coaching and encouragement during the workouts means more to me than I ever thought that it would. I never imagined it would provide enough push for me to grind it out like it has. Whether there’s 2 minutes left on the ERG and I’m clearly out of gas, or another 2 rounds left in a core finisher-Y’all help get me through it and keep me coming back! It is a true privilege to be in community with you- Thank you so much!
