Our Kirkwood member of the month is Kristina, aka, the PULL-UP QUEEEN. You may see her most frequently at the 7 am camp class or remember her from last years FitWit team games. She is continually working towards another goal once she reaches one, and she’s gone from 0 to 9 consistent pull-ups over the last few months! Her drive and determination is a huge motivator to other members in the gym and is a reminder that big goals are accomplished with consistency. Way to go, Kristina, keep up the great work! When did you first start FitWiting? August 2017
Tell us about your sports & fitness background:
I love playing sports. In high school, I ran cross country and track and played basketball. After high school, I continue to run with buddies and play basketball and soccer recreationally and whatever other game was happening at that time.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting FitWit?
I think FitWit has really helped in so many aspects of my health and fitness. In particular, I hadn’t previously done a lot of strength training and so now I feel a lot stronger. Prior to FitWit, I had never been able to do a single pull up and now I can do nine so that feels like a huge accomplishment!
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like FitWit that were totally unexpected?
I really appreciate FitWit’s focus on being capable versus body measurements. I love that shift as I haven’t really care what a scale has said in several months but am much more interested in accomplishing the goals I have set for myself. I also didn’t expect to find the community that I did which is lovely.
Why do you FitWit? Originally, we joined FitWit to challenge our workout routine and it certainly has. I love the thoughtfulness and dedication of all the trainers as it really pushes me to keep focused on form and steady improvement!
Favorite workouts? I really like the strength training ones where I get to push the weight and challenge myself to see how much I can do that day versus previous workouts.
Least favorite workouts? I don’t really have a whole workout that I don’t like. There are certain muscle groups that I like exercising less like triceps and hamstrings and I am still struggling with double-unders but it’s a work in progress.
Three words to describe you: Curious, creative, determined
Any favorite FitWit moments? I went to the FitWit games last year and really enjoyed them, so I am looking forward to it again this year.
Fitness Goals? To get 10 pull-ups in a row.
Words to live by? This is hard as it has changed over time and there are so many good ones! At the moment these words feel true to me “Work hard, be kind, stay humble”.
Something cool we don’t know about you? Another hard question, I guess I speak three languages and am working on learning Spanish.
Anything else you’d care to share? Nope just a lot gratitude for the great people at FitWit who inspire me!
