Kirkwood Member of the Month: Lindy

Hometown: Bonita Springs, FL
Age: 43
Occupation: Sales Division VP for St. George Spirits

Our Member of the Month, is someone that’s been attending FitWit for four full years now, Lindy! There’s so much good that can be said about this member and when the coaches looked at all the components of what makes a great member, she hit every box and more. Lindy is one of those people who puts her mind to a goal and then PRIORITIZES it until it’s been achieved. Whether it’s asking a coach for advice on how to get better, coming in early before class or staying long after class is over, the focus and discipline is always there. And, the fun thing about it is that it’s totally contagious for everyone else in the room. She has a strong group of friends at the 7 am slot that together are always making sure everyone feels welcome, and encouraged to be better and stronger then they were yesterday. If you see her around make sure to give her a big high five!

When did you first start FitWiting?

January 2014

Tell us about your sports and fitness background:

Growing up I was more of the dance class and cheerleader type. I played one very pitiful season of softball where I spent most of my time praying my teammates would strike out so I wouldn’t have to go to bat. I also ran track, very poorly, my freshman year of high school. I stayed active through my twenties by doing what most people did back then, 30 minutes of cardio on the stair master and then some weight machines. When I started at FitWit it had been about 10 years since I exercised with any regularity.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting FitWit?

Well, I just did my first In Body scan so I feel like I’m back at square one as far as tracking fat loss/muscle gain etc…I was really happy to learn that my muscle mass was above average though. When I started Fit Wit I couldn’t do a single toe push up and on the assessment last week I did 24. I also never imagined I’d be able to hold a plank for 4 minutes, run a mile in under 8 or do 100 burpees in under 7 minutes but I’ve been able to do all of those things.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like FitWit that were totally unexpected?

My friend Matt (Olson) recommended FW to me so I knew I’d have one friend at the gym. But I never imagined how many more truly meaningful friendships I would make here. I also didn’t expect to fall in love.

Why do you FitWit?

To be my best self. To start my mornings off by accomplishing something. And to look and feel good.

I always love staying after class with the 7:00 AM crew to get some plank time in or work towards the monthly challenges. I also love the moments in the gym when someone hits a PR or is able to do something for the first time.
