Our November member of the month is Helen B.! She is on the spotlight this month for all the hard work she’s been putting in since 2017. She can easily be spotted beasting it out on the ergs at the 7:15pm or during a noon class. We love Helen not only because she puts out her best effort every day, but also for her positivity and politeness that she emits! Coming to the gym can feel like a daunting task for some but with the encouragement and motivation from Helen, it really helps with getting in the gym and finishing out those last brutal reps! We all need friends like that. Read on to learn some snazzy facts about our MOTM!

When did you first start FitWiting? June 2017
Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I have always enjoyed walking and biking – easy to do growing up in Oregon! In high school I took weight lifting as my PE credit – which was me and the football team. My mother is Scottish, so I spent many summers on a small island in Scotland rowing around the bay by my grandparent’s house. After finishing my PhD, I decided I needed to get back into a fitness routine and joined Fitwit!
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting FitWit? My blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight have all decreased since I started Fitwit. I ran a mile in under 10 minutes a few months ago which I’m pretty sure I have never done before.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like FitWit that were totally unexpected? I am better at managing my time and making time for myself in a busy day. Also my husband Alex decided to join Fitwit after seeing how much I was enjoying it and benefiting from it!
Why do you FitWit? For stress relief, improved health, and great community.
Favorite workouts? Erg! (The only time my competitive streak comes out) Kettle bell swings! Team games!
Least favorite workouts? Push-ups, pull ups, timed running, burpees
Three words to describe you: Multitasker, Friendly, Quiet
Any favorite FitWit moments? Getting an email from Amy Perry Hair as a newbie suggesting we go to our first “real” class together. Running two miles without stopping (thanks to Ksenia Bocharova for running with me!) Micro 7:15 pm classes 😉
Fitness Goals? Get faster on the Erg; keep my health stats rockin’; maybe improve my arm strength (my dislikes really focus on arm exercises)
Words to live by? “True happiness is…to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future.”–Seneca
Something cool we don’t know about you? I spent 10 birthdays in 10 different countries through my 20s.
Anything else you’d care to share? Thanks for all the great support!
