Congrats to this 6am shining star of a FitWitter and our Member of the Month – Katie M! She came in hot at the end of last year with some seriously good rowing technique and the willingness to work hard. Always early for the 6 am class, always friendly and chatty, always ready to work, and almost 9 months into her pregnancy, she is still a force to be reckoned with! When did you first start FitWiting? November 2018
Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I have always participated in team sports starting with basketball as a kid and then I rowed in high school and college. After I graduated, I started running more and since I have moved to Atlanta I have loved participating in group fitness.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting FitWit? I have noticed that my push ups have gotten so much better and that overall I am much less injury prone. I also realized that I am able to erg again (without dying or hating it) after not erging for almost 8 years. 🙂
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like FitWit that were totally unexpected? I am much more consistent with my workouts and still manage to wake up for the 6am class during summer break! I also have started to listen to my body a lot more and I am more forgiving of myself when I have an off day. In the past that would have really bugged me, but now I realize how important it is to recognize that as part of your lifelong fitness.
Why do you FitWit? I love the community aspect of the gym and also do it for my physical and mental health. I want to stay active in the long term and I feel like FitWit supports that.
Favorite workouts? When I am not super pregnant I really like burpees and rowing 🙂
Least favorite workouts? Anything with lots of air bike sprints
Three words to describe you: driven, passionate, curious
Any favorite FitWit moments? I can’t think of one moment specifically, but I love the random conversations at the 6am class. Lisa is always talking about something interesting or funny – like her love for sloths or about how Atlanta is a hot spot for catfish.
Fitness Goals? One goal was to remain active for my pregnancy and another is to stay active for myself and my son in the long-term.
Words to live by (Favorite Quote)? “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”
Something cool we don’t know about you? I have traveled to 12 predominantly Spanish-speaking countries/territories.
