Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give a big round of applause for our Member of the Month. . . Kelsey M! Known to many as “Sprout” and/or “that super pregnant lady who consistently kicks my butt on the air bike ;-)”, she has been a force to reckoned with since day one. Kelsey’s grit and intensity are unmatched (like a true rugby star!) and she’s downright fun to coach. And, while you’d think that being 8 months pregnant would slow her down, all you suckers would be wrong! I’ll go ahead and admit that I am humbled and honored that my clumsiness made her top 3 FitWit moments, especially since I still have a knot from that self-inflicted black eye) 😉 But enough about me! Read on to learn more about this resident FitWit hot shot. . .
Hometown: Born in Houston, Texas but Atlanta is home.
Occupation: Child, Adolescent & Family therapist
When did you first start FitWitting? May 2018
Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I played rugby for 10 years until I injured my knee on two separate occasions. Never really considered myself athletic or played sports until rugby. It fueled my love of competition and in turn fitness because to play at a higher level, I had to care more for fitness. I’m still at a pause point with rugby based on currently being pregnant for the obvious reasons, but hoping to one day get back to it.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting FitWit? Since starting FitWit, I feel stronger and healthier overall. I lost some weight and I believe body fat, but mostly I’d say my stamina and recovery time have improved a lot. I can lift and squat more than I thought I could. I am fairly surprised with myself these days when I can still workout the way I want to at 8 months pregnant.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like FitWit that were totally unexpected? I actually feel motivated to work out just for myself, to feel good, not necessarily to be smaller or my pants to fit better or for a sport. I also miss the gym when I can’t come in and try to be more active at home on those days. I think I even made it to a 6AM class once and that was a big accomplishment for me!
Why do you FitWit? To stay fit, get stronger, the general fitness stuff, though I FitWit because I love the trainers and attentiveness that they give to each person, helpful feedback or challenges, the fun check ins or chats before or after class, the high level of energy experienced at workouts, dedication of members, the community. All the good stuff.
Favorite workouts? Bike sprints forever, box jumps, heavy rope runs
Least favorite workouts? Anything with longer runs
Three words to describe you: Compassionate, silly, motivated
Any favorite FitWit moments? Not in order, Lisa stretching in a dinosaur costume, Stacy getting a black eye from a kettlebell (I wasn’t there, but the story was funny enough for me), anytime Copernicus participates in a workout.
Fitness Goals? To happily run a long(er) distance, realistically a 5/10K
Words to live by (Favorite Quote)? Carl Rogers said “People are as beautiful as sunsets if you let them be… when I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying ’Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.’ I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”
Something cool we don’t know about you? My husband and I like to attend the big rugby matches each year (usually in Chicago) and got to see Ireland beat the New Zealand All Blacks for the first time in 111 years in 2016. That was really amazing! I also love Harry Potter and have read the books at least 4 or 5x. There are probably other cool things too.
Anything else you’d care to share? Just a good old fashioned thank you for helping me and others get stronger and live longer 😀
