October Member of the Month (O4W) – Maria M.

She is a true bright spot in the gym and is our October Member of the Month – congrats Maria M! You’ll find her at the 9 am or 12 pm class working her butt off and never hesitating to engage with our fine fitness community. Maria hit the ground running with us – she started strong with a willingness to learn, improve and put in the hard work it takes to get there. Coaches and fellow FitWitters alike have noticed that Maria has really hit her stride this past month. She’s moving well with great consistency, determination and focus and delivering some awesome performances in the gym (and I’m sure outside of the gym as well!) When did you first start FitWiting? March 2018

Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I’ve never been particularly athletic. Growing up, my parents put all of their energy into other extracurricular activities like music and science fairs. This made it really hard for me to establish a workout regimen as an adult. That is why I am so excited that I found FitWit! It is the first workout program that I have ever been able to stick to!

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting FitWit WOW! Where do I begin?! Everything from my endurance to my strength and flexibility have improved! I remember when I couldn’t even do ONE PUSHUP and now I’m busting out 5 in a row (this is HUGE for me!!) I’ve also dropped 2 pant sizes, lost about 10 pounds, and have finally learned to not hate burpees!

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like FitWit that were totally unexpected? I would have never expected that I would actually be excited and motivated to workout almost every day!

Why do you FitWit? FitWit creates an amazingly encouraging environment! Every time you go to class, you can be 100% sure that you will get the most out of it because the trainers and the people around you are equally committed to your success. I work remotely so I don’t always get to go into an office. FitWit has allowed me to do something that makes me feels great and get to spend time with people who make me smile.

Favorite workouts? I love partner workouts and anything that is focused on building your strength.

Least favorite workouts? Conditioning workouts are hard for me. (The bike and I are still not friends)

Three words to describe you: French Fries/Netflix 🙂

Any favorite FitWit moments? Watching Lisa demonstrate how to do a proper inchworm pushup in a T-rex costume is something that I will never forget!

Fitness Goals? I’ve always thought it would be really badass to do a Tough Mudder! There’s one on November 9th and 10th of 2019 if anyone wants to join me!

Words to live by (Favorite Quote)? My Grandfather used to say to me “Never do bad things that look good.” When I’m in the middle of a particularly difficult workout, I always tell myself that I can do anything for 10 more seconds.

Something cool we don’t know about you? (Don’t be shy! Lots of things about you are cool.) One time, I sat in front of Taylor Shilling on the uptown C train in NYC. I also played the saxophone for over 10 years and got to march in the 2008 Rose Bowl parade.

Anything else you’d care to share? I have really enjoyed my time at FitWit. I feel so much better about myself, have made friends, and found something that I see my self sticking to for a long time!
