Throwback Thursday: Mara S. Reaching the Summit of Mount Kilimanjaro!

As the sun rose in the early morning hours on June 29, 2018, I slowly, but steadily put one foot in front of the other and summited Mt. Kilimanjaro.  At 19,341 feet, it is the highest peak in Africa, and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. That may have been the pinnacle of my expedition, but the road to get there was a long one.

I’ve always been an active person, working out, playing sports, and always doing something physical with my body to stay in decent shape. I was exercising, but I knew what I was doing wasn’t enough to get me in the shape I wanted to be in to climb this mountain. Enter FitWit.

Over the next several months I worked out diligently at FitWit.  I could feel myself getting stronger and stronger. I was lifting heavier weights every week, running faster, biking harder and reaching PRs.  My training hikes were getting easier and easier. The trainers continued to push me everyday to get stronger and reach goals I never thought I’d reach in such a short period of time.  By the time I boarded that plane to Africa in early June of 2018, I knew I was ready. And I was. I climbed that mountain like a boss! I never felt soar or hurt, even after 8-12 hour days of hiking.  I was tired at the end of each day, but was ready to go 100% at the beginning of the next. Thanks to FitWit and all of the amazing trainers and staff I was in excellent physical condition and completely prepared for the trek.  FitWit helped get me to the top of that mountain and I will always be grateful. Now, on to the next adventure…
